The Ummah has re-awakened. A year of unspeakable horror in Gaza, and 75 years of Masjid Al-Aqsa and Palestine under occupation—some may have thought the heart of the ummah stopped beating. But this year has proven that the pulse of the Muslim ummah still endures, faint though it may seem. This glorious ummah of our beloved Prophet (saws) has withstood oppression and injustice on countless fronts throughout history. It has endured massacres, tragic loss and leaders who turned away from their sacred responsibilities, betraying the trust placed upon them. Yet this is the same ummah that expelled colonizers and while still bearing the scars and effects of colonialism, it continues to rise. As Gaza’s cries pierced the night during this year of genocide, millions poured into the streets, proclaiming loudly that their cries will not go in vain, that the governments supporting Israel or staying silent in the face of a genocide do not speak for them. Gaza’s pain is the ummah’s pain, and their unity in sorrow watching the horror unfold in Gaza has rekindled the flame of faith that binds them. The heart of the ummah beats on—strong, resilient, and unbreakable.
The genocide and occupation of Palestine are not isolated tragedies but part of a broader pattern of oppression faced by the Ummah across the globe. From the Uyghurs in China to the Rohingya in Myanmar, from Kashmir to Yemen, from Sudan to Syria, from Afghanistan to Pakistan—we witness a world where injustice, falsehood and tyranny prevail. Our beloved Prophet Muhammad (saws) said,
"The believers are like one body; if one part aches, the whole body responds with sleeplessness and fever."
[Sahih Muslim]
The Palestinian struggle stands as a powerful reminder of a deeper crisis confronting the Muslim world: an alarming global order where Western interests and Islamophobia fuels the dispossession of Muslim communities, stripping them of their lands, their freedoms, even their very right to exist, and often playing a key factor in destabilizing any Muslim country (as in the example of Sudan, Pakistan with Imran Khan, etc). Yet, in the face of these immense challenges, we are reminded of Allah's promise:
"Indeed, with hardship [will be] ease."
(Quran 94:6)
The pain of Palestine echoes throughout the entire ummah, uniting us in shared pain, but also a deep commitment to justice and the liberation of all oppressed people. It calls on this ummah’s heart to beat strong, yet again and meet the moment.
RAISSE Foundation seeks to meet the moment by revitalizing Islamic civilization, building an ummah-centric framework that can challenge the geopolitical landscape currently built on oppression, extraction and exploitation. The current global world order has not only perpetuated oppression and widespread Islamophobia, but the resilience of Gaza has unveiled the deep-rooted hypocrisy within this system. Gaza has laid bare the hypocrisy of the moral authority and effectiveness of the West and the very institutions constructed to uphold their dominance. For instance, upholding international law no longer has meaning if it means it will be selectively applied based on who the United States deems as an ally or an enemy. This approach has granted Israel impunity as it violates international law, without any mechanism for accountability for these violations. This duplicity has maintained an oppressive status quo, often at the expense of this Ummah.
A new approach to the geopolitical landscape is needed. The awakening brought forth by the genocide in Gaza calls upon the ummah to unite, to raise our voices against injustice, to think boldly and strategically about how to revive the ummah on multiple fronts while it’s heart beats, and to restructure the geopolitical landscape from the current oppressive status quo to one built on justice, freedom and hope. This moment in history is not just a revelation of the hypocrisy of the current world order, but the need for a new one that can be a beacon, guiding us to reaffirm our faith and commitment to a strengthened and powerful ummah. Drawing inspiration from our rich heritage, the ummah can strengthen its resolve and strive collectively for a world where peace, faith and justice prevail. For indeed, Allah is with those who are patient and steadfast, and His promise of victory and relief is ever near. In these trying times, we are reminded of Allah's words:
"O you who have believed, be persistently standing firm for justice, witnesses for Allah"
(Quran 4:135)
As Muslims, it is our divine duty to stand unwaveringly for truth and justice and usher in a world that reflects that truth and justice.
An ummah centric approach to the geopolitical landscape, as opposed to nation states and the political expediency of said nation states, can play a critical role in ushering in a new world order. A possible confederacy of Muslim states and allies that can be grounded on values of justice, economic expansion and prosperity can be possible. This confederacy could address the widespread oppression faced by Muslims globally—serving as an example of what can be possible with a strengthened and revitalized Islamic civilization. It heralds a new chapter where Muslims stand together, grounded in their faith, resilient in their struggle, and unwavering in their commitment to justice and prosperity for all as they move as one body and act as one body. As Allah reminds us,
"And hold firmly to the rope of Allah all together and do not become divided"
(Quran 3:103)
The reawakening of the ummah holds the potential to change the geopolitical landscape significantly. RAISSE Foundation’s vision demands strategic alliances within the Muslim world and beyond to advance shared goals of justice, peace and prosperity. The Palestinian struggle presents a crucial starting point for this revitalization, offering an opportunity for the Ummah to unify around a shared mission that transcends national and sectarian lines. Gaza has shown that the ummah’s heart still beats. This pulse has the potential to transform the geopolitical landscape by introducing a powerful, ethically grounded bloc that prioritizes justice and peace over political interests, oppression and exploitation. Through strategic alliances, shared prosperity, economic trade, open migration and collective defense, the Muslim world can assert its place on the global stage as a partner committed to the well-being of all of humanity. The time for action is now, and the awakening of the ummah is the first step toward a future where Islamic civilization thrives and enriches the entire world. The Ummah has truly re-awakened and has shown that its heart still beats strong. All Praise and Glory to Allah, Most High.
